Welcome to Burden Hill -- a picturesque little town adorned with white picket fences and green, green grass, home to a unique team of paranormal investigators. Beneath this shiny exterior, Burden Hill harbors dark and sinister secrets, and its up to a heroic gang of dogs -- and one cat -- to protect the town from the evil forces at work.

These are the Beasts of Burden Hill -- Pugs, Ace, Jack, Whitey, Red and the Orphan -- whose early experiences with the paranormal including a haunted doghouse, a witches coven, and a pack of canine zombies have led them to become members of the Wise Dog Society, official animal agents sworn to protect their town from evil.

    beast of burden

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. This is an amazing comic book, and I hope another hardback compilation comes soon. The artwork in this is beautiful. I love that the artist uses watercolor rather than another medium. It adds to the eeriness of the darker scenes, and something about it makes the animals seem more human in their emotions.

    See a Problem?

The art is what drew me to the series, and as I was reading it I would stare at the pictures for several minutes before turning the page to continue reading. Some comics have trouble filling in the blanks that novels fill in with words, but the artwork more than makes up for anything that would be lost between word and art.

The storytelling is also amazing. Some of the stories will make you laugh, the others will have you crying because they are so moving.

The personification of the dogs and cats helps you to relate to them, and the fact that they're like our own pets makes you fall in love with them within the first few pages. I wish I could say more about this, but you really need to read it yourself to understand.
